The first total lunar eclipse to take place on winter solstice for more than 300 years took place this year.
The eclipse, viewed from northern England, started off beautifully with a clear sky. However towards the totality the good old British weather struck and clouds started to roll in, but not before I got some nice shots and some moody red clouds added a nice touch.
To be honest I was quite pleased that the clouds came in as it was -10 degrees and I was standing on a snow covered hill so I was beginning to get a bit cold and my toes were nowhere to be found!
